I know. Two posts in the same day. Bad form, I assume. But some topics deserve their own post, simply to make them easier to find. I wanted to clarify what this site is, what it’s for, and what I plan to do with it.
What the site is
As I said in my previous post, this is an archive. A showcase. As I make things, I will put them here. And one day, when I shift from podcasting to programming as a vocation, I’ll be adding things like a resume, contact info, and so forth. In other words, I do anticipate my current career to end at some point, and when that happens, I want to be prepared for it.
What the site is not
I also mentioned that I don’t intend this to be a blog. I do enjoy writing, and it’s one of few things that I’ll admit to being at least pretty good at, but blogs are stupid. Nobody wants to read me self-indulgently opining on a regular basis. Blogs are also noise. If someone wants to see my stuff, having an internet journal here is, at best, not going to facilitate that process. At worst, it will actively harm the endeavor.
This site is also not “under construction”. I realize there’s almost nothing here, and if you don’t include blocks of text with the odd screenshot, there’s literally nothing here. That is by design. I enjoy simplicity, having grown up with an internet that had only just recently discovered HTML. And yes, I realize that if you open the source code for this site, you will be covered in the hypertext equivalent of diarrhea. If I was truly an alpha nerd, I’d edit and upload the HTML files myself, but I don’t care enough. WordPress is fine for something I’ll look at once a season.
What does the future hold?
Nothing. Well, I mentioned adding a resume and some contact information one day, but that’s about it. This site shall remain mostly plain text on a plain background, packed with as much information per character as possible, just like the creators of the internet intended. I don’t even plan on adding social media links. I don’t use social media, and I will never use social media if I can help it. Yes, I’m one of those people.
